A comforting and hearty shepherd's pie perfect for a festive Christmas dinner, combining savory meat, vegetables, and cheesy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 diced onion
  • 2 diced carrots
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • to taste salt and pepper salt and pepper

Mashed Potatoes

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Garnish

  • as needed fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cook meat until browned; add vegetables and simmer with broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire, herbs, salt, and pepper for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, and sprinkle cheese.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly. Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

Use a meat of your choice and adjust seasoning to taste.
