A hearty baked pasta dish combining tender ziti, seasoned ground chicken, and melty cheeses for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1 pound Ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1.5 pounds ground chicken
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 5 cups marinara sauce (e.g., Prego, tomato basil & garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar
  • 15 ounce ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 to 3 shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 to 0.75 grated parmesan cheese

Instructions 

  • Cook ziti according to package minus 2 minutes, then drain.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet, add ground chicken, onion, and garlic; cook until chicken is no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  • Add marinara sauce, seasonings, and simmer for 4-5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Mix cooked pasta into the sauce, then gently fold in ricotta and basil, keeping ricotta distinct.
  • Transfer to a baking dish, top with mozzarella and parmesan, then bake until bubbly and golden.

Notes

For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk or more cheese before baking.
