Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Main ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts or raisins (optional) (optional)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch pan.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl; combine wet ingredients separately.
  • Combine wet and dry, then fold in apples and nuts if using.
  • Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle with a little cinnamon before baking.
