A delicious from-scratch green bean casserole with a creamy sauce and crispy onions, perfect for holiday dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Green Beans

  • 1 pound fresh green beans (trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Blanch green beans for 3-4 minutes, drain.
  • Cook onion and mushrooms in butter until softened, then stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  • Whisk in vegetable broth and heavy cream, cook until thickened, then add garlic powder, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix green beans with sauce, transfer to baking dish, top with fried onions, and bake 25-30 minutes.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of thyme or paprika to the sauce.
